Best Online Master’s in Business Analytics: Overview
2024 Online Rankings Highlights
You won’t have to search hard to find an outstanding Online MSBA in this year’s list of the 20 best online graduate degrees in business analytics. Our rankings uncovered a smorgasbord of innovative programs. Here are a few 2024 highlights:
- It’s All About the Personal Touch: Top Online MSBA programs in our rankings often include campus immersives, summer residencies, or the like. Even 100% online programs often include real-time/synchronous elements like virtual class sessions and team meetings. Get ready to network.
- Customization is the Name of the Game: Plenty of MSBA programs contain unique concentrations or electives. These elements will allow you to sub-specialize in areas such as data science, marketing analytics, supply chains, finance analytics, and more. You can also use your capstone project to focus on a particular industry or sector.
- Online or On-Campus—It’s Your Choice: Many Schools of Business now offer a full-time, on-campus MSBA program as well as a part-time distance learning degree for working professionals. If you live near one of these schools or you need to attend an in-person STEM-designated program for your F-1 Visa, you will have options.
- Business Costs More Than Data: Generally speaking, Online MSBA programs are more expensive than Online MS in Data Analytics programs. Business Schools are charging you for the privileges of perks like career services, one-on-one coaching, and recruitment events. If money is an issue, we’ve highlighted a number of affordable schools in our rankings (e.g. Affordable=Under $35,000).
- The MSBA vs. MBA Debate Continues: Almost all Schools of Business also offer an Online MBA or Hybrid MBA. In some cases, there’s even an MBA specialization in Business Analytics. If you need help with the MSBA vs. MBA decision, consult our guide to the Master’s in Business Analytics. You should also ask the program coordinator if you can apply your MSBA credits towards an MBA. And if you want to focus your search on MBA programs, review our rankings of the best online MBA in analytics programs.
Best Rankings Methodology
For our rankings of the best online master’s degrees in business analytics, we created a unique, weighted algorithm made up of 3 key elements: quality, affordability, and results. The following data points were included in our calculations:
- Focus: These particular rankings are devoted to online master’s programs in business analytics—we excluded MS degrees in niche areas such as marketing, risk, and finance analytics. Data lovers may wish to compare these program profiles with our rankings of the 20 Best Online Master’s Degrees in Data Analytics.
- Accreditation: We only included non-profit and regionally accredited public & private universities in our list. You’ll notice that all of the Schools of Business are also AACSB-accredited. Learn why regional & AACSB accreditation are important.
- Reputation: We incorporated a variety of U.S. News & World Report graduate rankings into this particular algorithm, including placements for the Business Analytics MBA, Online Business Analytics MBA, Business Schools, and Computer Science Schools.
- Affordability: For the cost of the degree, we analyzed IPEDS graduate student tuition data. Many public universities only have one tuition rate for online graduate programs. Whenever in-state and out-of-state rates were different, we averaged the prices so our rankings didn’t favor local students.
- Outcomes: Our algorithm also includes student completion IPEDS data for Business Administration, Management & Operations and Computer & Information Sciences & Support Services graduates. If schools reported Business Analytics student completion data, they received an additional boost.

It kicks off with a course in Business Analytics Foundations before delving into areas like data modeling, visualization, simulations, and data mining. You’ll notice that a number of courses address specific realms of business (e.g. Marketing Analytics). You can refine the program even further with technical electives (e.g. Neural Networks for Business Administration) and an optional capstone.
Thinking about reputation? BU is a private research university with a sturdy track record in the Northeast. Faculty in the Department of Administrative Sciences within the Metropolitan College (MET) have expertise in a diverse range of business areas and graduate students have free access to hands-on analytics preparatory labs. The MET also has its own Decision Sciences Research Lab (DSLab) that brings together students & faculty to work on interdisciplinary projects in areas like supply chains, manufacturing, and healthcare.

2024 Online Master’s, MSBA & MBA Honorable Mentions
Although we had to omit a few schools from our official rankings, we wanted to alert you to the fact of their existence! Some are hybrid. Others didn’t have enough of a corporate feel to qualify for a business analytics list. But they’re all worthwhile opportunities.
- Pennsylvania State University: Take a look at Penn State’s Online MPS in Data Analytics profile in our rankings of the Best Online Master’s in Data Analytics. You can choose a Business Analytics option, but this program is primarily focused on data.
- Clemson University: Clemson’s Hybrid MBA in Business Analytics is a mixture of online classes and a few weekends per semester on the Greenville campus.
- Rice University: Rice’s Online Master of Data Science (MDS): Business Analytics focuses on data science first and business analytics second. If you want to get stuck into Machine Learning, programming, and big data theory, it’s worth considering!
- University of Virginia: UVA’s streamlined Hybrid MSBA contains 2 weekly live online classes and 10 weekend residencies on the DC Metro and Charlottesville campuses.
